B&N's Original Nook Wireless Book Reader Takes On Amazon's Digital Books Reader
The modern Nook wireless ebook reader being marketed by B&N, the worlds largest book store with over 1,300 branches, seems set to lock horns with the worlds number one selling story book reader, the Kindle.
Although not long unveiled, the Nook electronic book readers are looking to ruffle Amazon's feathers even more by taking it on directly in a segment of the market-place, that up to yet, the Amazon Kindle has dominated. Ever since it's unveiling, firstly as the Kindle then later in February 2009 as the Amazon kindle 2 , it has re-ignited the electronic book reader market place by offering a combination of ground-breaking specification, owing to it's instant connect anywhere wireless networking and also the chief collection of novels available for download at superb, cheaper than the high street, prices.
No doubt after going through ebook reader reviews, buyers brought in to the idea in a big way and it is only recently that the rest of the trade have woken up to the reality that this is the potential of book retail. An so in the last few months we have had the broadcast from Sony of their intention to join in the fun, with their soon to be unveiled Daily Edition, and the latest press release from Barnes and Noble that their own challenger, the Nook, will be back to complete manufacture very soon.
There are no doubts that the Kindle2 is the reader everyone is going for. And to be truthful it's nice to see a little opposition in this sector. Yes we have had the iRex iLiad but the ebook readers reviews disliked it because it was a little on the large side to be a revolutionary wireless reading device, just right for office use with the 1:1 A4 imitation, but much like the Kindle dx - another wireless portable reading device - not something you may want to take on vacation, or put in your handbag or pocket for that matter, and it was in no way going to compete on price was it?
Accordingly now we have two outsized companies ready to go head to head, with the might of Amazon, on all fronts. Sony in recent times increased the range of their annals at the Sony-Store and reduced the price of their digitally shipped titles to match that of Amazons and hopefully Barnes and Noble, who have always been in the identical ballpark affordability wise, will match them title for title also.
However the biggest news for consumers has to be the shift away from proprietary file formats used by Sony in the initial days and even now utilized by the Kindle now. To explain the situation I will use Kindle2 as an example, keep in mind this is even now the case with the Kindle so it makes it more clear.
